Tyson Ready For Comeback Against McBride on July 30

16.06.04 - Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson is expected to face Kevin McBride (31-4-1, 26 KOs), on July 30. The fight will probably be held in Louisville, Kentucky. McBride, 31, 6-6, 260 pounds, is even larger than Lennox Lewis, although he doesn’t have the chin, power or speed to be much of a threat to Tyson. Two of McBride’s losses came to 2nd tier contenders DaVarryl Williamson and Axel Shulz, both by knockout. As one-sided as this fight is likely to be, Tyson’s advisor Shelly Finkel is working on having the fight televised on Showtime PPV rather than regular cable.

Tyson (50-4, 44 KOs) has fought less than a minute in the last two years. He took 49 seconds to knock out Clifford Etienne in February last year in his first fight since being demolished by Lennox Lewis in June 2002. "Mike just wants to get in the ring," Finkel said." Finkel is also reportedly trying to put together a fight between Tyson and light heavyweight champ Antonio Tarver, who destroyed Roy Jones on May 15. The fight will take place later this year.
