15.12.07 - By Jeff Bastasini: Middleweight boxing prospect Andy Lee (14-0, 11 KOs) made easy work of Jason McKay (18-2, 6 KOs), defeating him by six round TKO tonight at the National Stadium, in Dublin, Ireland, to win the vacant Irish middleweight title. Lee, 23, jumped on the overmatched McKay from the opening bell, raining blows on his hapless opponent. McKay, 30, was knocked down in the 2nd round by a lightning fast right hand from Lee.
For the next four rounds, Lee continued to mercilessly pound away at McKay, hitting him with powerful hooks to the head and body. Though McKay tried to retaliate with shots, he was far too slow to match the kind of fire power that Lee was dishing out against him. The fifth and sixth rounds were especially bad to watch with Lee hitting McKay at will with hardly anything meaningful coming back at him in response.
After the sixth round ended, McKay wisely chose not to come out for the 7th round. Later on, Lee’s manager Emanuel Steward stated “Andy Lee will beat Kelly Pavlik to become middleweight champion of the world."
