Clottey-Alvarez Set To Battle On Versus Network On Thursday Night

19.12.07 - By Laz Izada: In an International Boxing Federation Welterweight eliminator between Joshua “The Hitter” Clottey (32-2, 19 KOs) meets up with Shamone “The Truth” Alvarez (19-0, 11 KOs) on Thursday night at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Clottey, is from the Bronx by way of Ghana, is currently ranked # 6 by the International Boxing Federation welterweight division, whereas Alvarez, 30, Alvarez comes from Atlantic City and is ranked 10th by the IBF. The winner of this bout moves up to the # 1 ranking and gets a shot at current IBF welterweight champion Kermit Cintron.

The stakes are high for both fighters as Clottey looks for another title shot since losing a unanimous decision in December 2006 to former World Boxing Organization welterweight champ Antonio Margarito. Alvarez, a southpaw and a four-time New Jersey Golden Gloves champion, is looking to upset Clottey, whom has more professional experience despite their identical ages. Clottey is 5’ 8” with a 70 inch reach, while Alvarez is 5’ 7” with a 71 inch reach. For the undefeated Alvarez, it will be his toughest challenge of his young career. Clottey, the veteran in this matchup with 34 fights under his belt, he cannot afford to lose this fight if he wants to stay in line for a future title shot.
