"Ruthless" Roy Delgado to Return on ESPN2's Tuesday Night Fights

13.07.04 - Roy Delgado (12-2) will return to the ring in a light welterweight dual with undefeated Midwest prospect Isaac Mendoza of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Delgado will be taking on the light punching Mendoza July 20th as the co-main event. 10-0 Mendoza has never fought outside of Missouri or Oklahoma and has only 5 KO's on his record but should provide a significant test for Delgado who is coming off a 8 month layoff. Delgado, who recently spent several weeks training with Juan Diaz for his upcoming world championship bout, is in top shape and itching for a return to prospect status among junior welterweights.

After two controversial draws against journeyman Coloradoan Brad Jensen, Delgado took a step away from boxing to gain his bearings and regain the burning desire needed to take a run at the title. Delgado's draining style of coming forward and dominating opponents is sure to provide him with the edge in his upcoming bout. Delgado also has the advantage of hiring a new trainer by the name of Trevor Whittman along with Jake Ramos. Whittman has trained several champions along with his current IBF Junior Middleweight champion Verno Phillips and considered one of the best at rejuvenating careers.

While watching Roy Delgado in sparring sessions, it's clear that his veteran moves and strong punching will be overwhelming for just about anyone in the division. His opponents far exceed Mendoza's in quality, number of fights and current rankings. Mendoza's opponents share a mere 37 wins while Delgado's share nearly three times that amount at 92 wins. Should "Ruthless" Roy stalk down Mendoza and resume his hard punching, never backing down style, it could make for a short night. Look for Colorado's best junior welterweight on ESPN2 July 20th at 7pm, live from Memorial Hall in Joplin, Missouri.
