Ahmet Öner did it again. The Hamburg based promoter signed a very promising amateur who was haunted by promoters from all over the world: Atagün Yalcinkaya, Turkish silver medallist at the 2004 Olympics in light flyweight division..
The Turkish amateur boxing federation wanted their star to compete at the Olympics again in 2008 and go for gold in Beijing this year. But Atagün decided to turn pro immediately under the banner of ARENA. The 21-year-old exceptional talent from Ankara will give his pro-debut on March 11th in Halle/Saale.
ARENA-CEO Ahmet Öner: “I’m expecting a lot from that kid. He has enormous potential and is already a superstar in Turkey. International success at the pros will make him a national hero.”
Yalcinkaya lost the Olympic final in 2004 to Cuba’s Yan Barthelemy who is fighting for ARENA as well.
Öner: “I got the gold and the silver medallist – the two best boxers of their division. I am sure that they will be as dominant at the pros as they were as amateurs.”
Like Barthelemy Atagün Yalcinkaya will fight in the bantamweight division at the pros.
