Nikolai Valuev is not the only giant in Nurnberg these days. Their local football club, the reigning German Cup winners Nurnberg FC, most recently acquired Czech international Jan Koller. The popular striker is 2.02 metres tall – and today caught up with an athlete who even exceeds him in height (2.13). “It is not very often that I look up to people,” Koller joked. “I wish Nikolai all the best. I´m sure he will win on Saturday..”
Valuev (47-1, 34 KOs) will battle out an WBA eliminator with Sergey Liakhovich (23-2, 14 KOs) on February 16. But the tallest and heaviest champion of all time is not just a gifted boxer. “I was impressed by his football skills,” Koller added after their meeting.
Valuev invited Koller and his team-mates to attend Saturday´s clash. “My countryman Ivan Saenko will be at the fight and I hope he will be joined by a few more Nurnberg players,” Valuev said. “I keep my fingers crossed they will bring home three points from the away game at Werder Bremen on
Saturday.”
