Forbes Fires Roger Mayweather, Then Hires Jeff Mayweather

By Dales Fowkes: ESPN writer Dan Rafael is reporting that Steve Forbes has fired trainer Roger Mayweather and hired his brother, Jeff Mayweather, in part because Floyd Mayweather Jr's comments in an earlier media teleconference in which he said that he was upset with Roger for training Forbes, and said that he'd be looking for another trainer if he continues with his plans on training Forbes.

Mayweather Jr. reportedly is concerned that Forbes might end up beating De La Hoya, thus messing up Mayweather's plans of a second bout with De La Hoya in September. The first bout made Mayweather $20 million, so it's understandable his worry that Forbes may learn enough from Roger to pull off an upset against the 35 year-old De La Hoya. Forbes, however, has been trained by both Jeff and Floyd Sr., so this move to Jeff will likely not change things all that much for him.

According to Rafael, Forbes had attempted to reach Roger and let him know about his decision to release him as a trainer, but couldn't get in touch with him, and that Roger failed to appear at their scheduled training session on Thursday at the gym.
