Heavyweight Tidal Wave at Trump Taj Mahal Tonight

23.07.04 - A tidal wave of heavyweight proportions will hit the Jersey shore this Friday night, July 23, when Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing presents Oleg Maskaev vs. unbeaten David Defiagbon in the main event, and Brian Minto vs. Vinny Maddalone in the co-feature at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. ESPN/2's Friday Night Fights will televise beginning at 9:00 PM/ET with Joe Tessitore and Teddy Atlas calling the action.

Unbeaten Israeli star Yuri Foreman (14-0, 6 KO's), fighting out of Gleason's Gym in Brooklyn, squares off against Joshua Onyango (12-9, 11 KO's) of Edison, New Jersey, in another televised contest, a six round junior middleweight contest.

Defiagbon, a silver medalist in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, comes into the fight with an impressive record of 21-0 as a professional. Maskaev returns to the scene of two of his most impressive career wins: a spectacular come-from-behind win over then former world champion Hasim Rahman on November 6, 1999, and a TKO triumph over well-regarded Derrick Jefferson on May 20, 2000. Maddalone, who has scored back to back knockout victories and has a 67 percent KO percentage, will face the undefeated Minto in a true test.
