"I've never felt better, I'm punching harder every time I step in the gym and I'm ready to SMASH Demers and bring a title back to the East Side," Vanda said. You are going to see the best out of "The Predator" this Saturday night."
Although Vanda has gone 3-3 in has last 6 fights, close followers of the Minnesota boxing scene know that Vanda has increased his punching power significantly over the last year through his work with trainer Ron Lyke and is improving every time he steps in the ring. At only 29 years of age and virtually no amateur experience, Vanda is just entering his prime.
In his recent 3 loses, Vanda moved up to middleweight to make the biggest fights Minnesota had to offer, facing rivals who campaigned regularly at super middleweight and as high as light-heavyweight. In his last bout, Vanda demonstrated his increased punching power by dropping Minnesota rival Andy Kolle - a 6'1" southpaw - in the seventh round of their eight round contest which Kolle won by a razor thin unanimous decision.
Team Vanda immediately accepted the offer to fight Demers who is ranked #7 by the WBO, #14 by the WBA and #22 by the WBC for a chance to regain his status on a national level.
The Budweiser Boxing Series will be broadcast live from Montreal beginning at 6pm Central Time at www.gymboxe.tv. The main event, Demers versus Vanda, is expected to begin at around 9:30 central time.
In the co-feature recent ring magazine prospect of the month, Adonis Stevenson (10-0, 7 KO's) will take on veteran Dhafir Smith (20-16-6, 4 KO's) who recently appeared in victory on ESPN2's Friday Night Fights series. The Stevenson-Smith contest will be a 12 rounder for the vacant WBC Continental America's supper middleweight title.
Also featured will be the man who gave "Ireland's" John Duddy all he could handle in February at Madison Square Garden, Walid Smichet (17-4-3, 13 KO's) in a 8 round contest versus Pennsylvania's Chris Archer (9-2, 5 KO's).
The rest of the card looks just as strong as Montreal's undefeated welterweight prospect Manolis Plaitis (10-0, 6 KO's) faces off against Fransisco Rios Gil (11-6, 8 KO's). Light welterweight Benyamine Besmi (6-0, 3 KO's) and heavyweight Patrice L'Heureux (21-4-1, 12 KO's) will both see action in separate 6 round bouts.
