Woolcombe’s winning streak began in June 2003 when he outpointed Birmingham’s Arv Mittoo, and the 25 year old maintained his unbeaten York Hall record when he stopped Jason Rushton last September.
The Welling based fighter then followed up with a career best performance to beat Marcus Portman for the vacant British light middleweight belt, and is bursting at the seams to make his first title defence next week in front of his legion of south London fans.
Since winning the title, Gary’s popularity has soared, as reflected in his personal ticket sales having reached over 400 for this fight. He has been advised by his trainer to turn his phone off to avoid any distractions!
“I am happy to be selling so many tickets but it is definitely not distracting me, if anything it is helping me as it is keeping me focussed,” said Woolcombe.
“I am very confident and there is no way I am going to let all these fans down. I think I can stop him.”
Frank Maloney Promotions presents ‘Divine Retribution’’ at York Hall, London on Friday, April 18 which will also be shown live on Sky TV. Tickets are priced at £80 and £40 and are available by logging onto www.frankmaloney.com or by calling the Box Office at 0871 226 1508.
