Barthelemy impresses on Tarver-Woods / Dawson-Johnson undercard
Tampa, April 13th 2008 -- Bantamweight phenomenon Yan Barthelemy remains unbeaten after Saturday night’s impressive six rounds unanimous decision win over Colombian veteran Jose Garcia Bernal at St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Florida. Barthelemy once more showed excellent boxing skills winning every round plus dropping his opponent in the fifth. It was the sixth victory in as many pro-fights for the 2004 Olympic gold medallist and former world amateur champion who emphasized again that he is absolutely focused on winning a world title at the pros as well..
“Yan showed that he is on his way to become one of the best boxers in the world”, stated ARENA-CEO Ahmet Öner after the fight. “His fights may not be the most spectacular but he is a great stylist and it’s always fun to watch him outbox every opponent. We should not forget that he was in the ring with a very experienced guy who barely ever hit him.” Regarding the ambitions of his Cuban star the promoter added: “Yan’s next fight will be his first eight-rounder. I am sure that he will be ready for his first shot at a regional or interconti title by the end of this year. And if he continues to work as hard as he does right now – which I am convinced he will – he can become world champion in 2009.”
