Calzaghe Serves Up Good Crow!
By Yero Moody: I hate eating crow but when you make such bold predictions as I have, and will continue to do, sometimes this is the result. Although I can say that I am accurate in my predictions far more than I am wrong, it still doesn't taste good. Calzaghe did not surprise me at all. He fought the fight I knew he would fight. It was Hopkins who surprised me. I was baffled that he thought the he could try and land that overhand right all night against a younger, faster fighter..

Calzaghe fought with speed and energy the whole night and that is what won him the fight. He did not hurt Hopkins at all but you need not hurt your opponent to win. The judging was pathetic. I had Calzaghe winning 116-113 and it should have been a unanimous decision. I also felt both fighters did a lot of dirty tactics and Joe Cortez did a fair job of trying to get both of them to fight fair. I don't agree with alot of my European counterparts who always seem to want to blame the referee, i.e. Hatton v. Mayweather!
Hopkins should consider one more farewell fight before retiring. He clearly doesn't have the gas in his tank like he used to. This fight would have been very different had this been Hopkins at 36. I'm not suggesting he would have won nor am I taking away from Calzaghe's victory. I look forward to seeing more of Calzaghe fighting in this type of competitive fight. All in all it was a great win for Calzaghe, his fans and boxing. Thank you for reading.
