Tony Ayala Sentenced To Ten Years In Prison!

29.07.04 - One time highly promising Boxer Tony Ayala Jr., was sentenced to 10 years in prison Wednesday for violating terms of the probation he was serving from a burglary conviction. After he was stopped for speeding and charged with possessing drug paraphernalia. Ayala later on refused to submit to a drug test earlier this month. At that point, the State District Judge Maria Teresa Herr ordered him back to prison. Ayala, now 41 years old, had previously been convicted in 2001 of burglary with intent to commit aggravated assault after he broke into a young woman's home in San Antonio. During the break in, the young woman in the house shot Ayala and wounded him in the left shoulder. He later on recovered from the wound and resumed his boxing career.

Ayala was 22-0 by the time he was 19 years old. Yet, it all came crashing down on New Year's Day 1983, when Ayala broke into a woman's home in New Jersey in the middle of the night. That woman was tied up and raped.

In 1999, Ayala was Released after serving less than half of his 35-year prison term. He then embarked on an unlikely comeback, saying he felt up to the challenge physically and that the public seemed willing to give him a second chance. He returned to San Antonio and immediately resumed his career, racking up five straight wins before he lost to Yory Boy Campos by technical knockout last year.

For Ayala, his legal troubles had already started. At 15, he assaulted a girl in a restroom and received 10 years' probation. A few years later, he moved to New Jersey after an arrest on charges he ransacked a neighbor's house while he was drunk.
