Team GB’s boxers are ‘on track’ ahead of this summer’s Olympic Games in Beijing, that is according to Team GB Boxing Team Leader Terry Edwards. Speaking to Setanta Sports News during Steve Bunce’s Boxing Hour he said: “We’ve just come back from a major tournament in Poland where our Olympians competed and we did extremely out there..
“It was a European Union championship, so there were some big guns there and we finished up with four gold medals, three silver medals and a bronze medal.”
One fighter unable to attend the competition in Poland was light welterweight Bradley Saunders, who was rumoured to be suffering from a hand injury.
However Edwards dismissed any speculation that Saunders was not 100% fit, he said:
“He went to Taipei the week before and in that week he had four bouts, all against qualified boxers. He beat the world bronze medallist in his second bout; in his third bout he stopped the reigning Olympic champion in the third round. He then beat the Zambian [Hastings Bwalya] in the final.
