Super middleweight boxer Carl Froch faces more frustration in his quest for a shot at the vacant WBC super-middleweight title as his much hyped bout against US star Jermain Taylor is thrown into doubt amidst a cash row. Froch hit back at claims from his rival that he is not well known enough to fight in the States..
Speaking to Setanta Sports News during Steve Bunce’s Boxing Hour he said:
“I disagree. I think myself and Jermain Taylor is a massive fight, especially in Britain. And it’s got high expectations in America as well.
“Taylor’s a marketing fighter, I‘m a marketing fighter in Britain. If we get it on, on either side of the Atlantic, I think it’s a big fight.
With the two boxers so far apart on money it seems likely that Jermain Taylor will take on Jeff Lacey, a move that has been condemned by Froch.
“I’m surrounded by fighters and opposition that keep bottling it.
“Jeff Lacey hasn’t fought anybody since he got floored by Calzaghe. He hasn’t done anything since then. He’s not a big name. They think Lacey’s an easier fight than I am.
“I agree with them. But the fact is I’m the number one contender with the WBC and Jermain Taylor’s next in line.”
