Speaking to Setanta Sports News during Steve Bunce's Boxing Hour Murray said:
“Amir Khan said ‘if Murray wins this fight [against Meager] we’ll have it on September 6th. I took care of Lee Meager and I’m willing to fight. If he wants to meet me at the MEN Arena, I’ll see him there.
“I think it can still happen. He’s a good fighter. I’m a good fighter. We’re both young, both ambitious. I think it would be a great fight for the British public.”
Frank Warren meanwhile has released a statement making it clear that Murray stands absolutely no chance of fighting Khan in the near future.
“John Murray will certainly not be Amir's next opponent for September 6 at the M.E.N Arena.
“We are working on Amir's challenger for his Commonwealth title and we will be in a position to announce it shortly.”
