Macho Camacho: Comeback Victory is Only the Beginning

By Raymond Markarian: This past Friday, July 18th, Hector Macho Camacho captured his record tenth world championship by defeating Perry Ballard via TKO in Houston, Texas. The fight began as a slugfest with both combatants itching for the knockout and ended with Ballard’s corner throwing in the towel after the end of the seventh round.

The 46 year old Camacho showcased some of the razzle dazzle boxing fans were accustomed to seeing from the Puerto Rican fighting legend. The future hall of famer controlled the action using superior speed and power, dislocating Ballard’s jaw in the process of victory..

Camacho’s venture into the ring on Friday was his first fight in three years. Much of the credit for the resurrection should be given to his trainer Angelo Dundee. Camacho is the 16th world champion the Legendary Angelo Dundee has worked with, putting another notch on his already historic resume.

Camacho and Dundee, who have a combined 26 world titles, plan to continue the comeback trail, and have their eyes set on a purposed family feud event featuring Hector Camacho Jr. and Sr. fighting Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Sr. According Hector Macho Camacho Sr. the doubleheader is being worked up by Bob Arum with Top Rank Inc

Camacho said “I spoke with Arum about a month ago back at the boxing hall of fame. He brought it to my attention. So I think it going to happen around November 1st.”
