Ashley Theopane Hammers Chop Chop Corley
by Bob Caico / Photo: Boxing Bob Newman - Junior welterweight Ashley Theopane (22-3-1) took a unanimous eight round decision from former WBO light welterweight champion Demarcus “Chop Chop” Corley (31-9-1) on Thursday night at Frontier Field in Rochester, NY. Corley started out strong and won the first two rounds. From there it would be hard pressed to give him another round as Theophane put on constant pressure.

From the fifth round on Theophane landed body shots, left hooks and right hands at will over the former champion. Corley continued to fight back but his punches had lost steam and Theophane continued to land clean punches. The punches didn’t seem to hurt Corley but the were very effective in keeping him off balance. Scores were 78-74, 78-75 and 79-73..
Theophane had a successful game plan going in. “I took the fight on 10 days notice, I just knew I had to work, I been watching Corley. I knew he seems to start off good the first couple rounds or so, but then he fades,” said Ashley. “Seeing that the last person who beat Corley is number one ranked by the WBC, someone should rank me somewhere. Maybe have a fight with someone in top 20, then in top 10, then in 2009 a world title."
