Speaking to Setanta Sports News Calzaghe was full of praise for brothers Bradley and Billy Joe Saunders, who comfortably beat their first round opponents.
“Their style wasn’t what you’d call conventional amateur style and that’s what impressed me about these two lads. They bring a bit of professionalism to it.
“There’s a hell of a lot of potential there. There’s enough for them both to progress a lot further. To a win gold medal, that’s a dream.”
Already there are talks of professional contracts on offer for members of Team GB, which Calzaghe has urged them to take a serious look at.
“If you win the gold medal, what’s left to win at amateur status? Nothing.
“The money [at amateur level] isn’t comparable to that of a professional. You can have fun fighting for medals but there comes a time when you’ve got to do it for a living.”
