ARTUR ABRAHAM new WBA International 160 lbs Champ

03.09.04 - Doubtless it was the fight of the evening for Sauerland Events promotion last night (Saturday 4th) in Essen, Germany, with the vacant WBA International Middleweight Crown at stake between ARTUR ABRAHAM (Germany) vs. NADER HAMDAN (Australia). The Official weights for both were Abraham 71,800 Kgrs. and Hamdan 72,110 Kgrs.

None of them had ever been floored before in their professional careers, Abraham with 12 wins (ALL by KO !!), 0 losses, 0 draws and Hamdan 36 wins (17 KOs), 1 loss (by point decision), 0 draw. So everybody was quite excited for the result of this WBA International Championship.

The first 3 rounds Hamdan landed a higher number of punches and dominated from the distance. However Abraham with a strong defense seemed at all times quite confident with his strategy and beginning the 4th round started to dominate with powerful left and right hooks and some tremendous direct punches on Hamdan's face to the point that the Australian was almost floored at the end of 8th round.

Hamdan with an outstanding courage giving credit to his record (36-1-0/17 KOs never floored) continued with some combinations but could not stand the overcoming strength from the young Abraham and after a first knockdown on 11th round the referee Mr. Erkki Meronen (Finland) had to stopped the fight at 1:30 min of the 12th round by TKO.

The scores up to the 11th round from the neutral officials were: Terry O'Connor (GBR) 105-102; Juan Manuel Garcia (SPA) 107-99; Jean François Toupin (FRA) 107-101.
