Euro Roundup: Sam Peter sparring with Hoffman, Abraham struggling to make weight?

By Per Ake Persson: Comebacking German heavy Timo Hoffmann is sparring with Samuel Peter - which sounds like trouble for Big Timo, who returns after almost a year out October 10 in Barleben where Hoffmann face Kenyan Raymond Ochieng. Bild Zeitung brings today a story on IBF middle champ Arthur Abraham and his struggle to make 72,5 / 160 Friday afternoon. There are three kilos / six lbs left. Abraham is likely to make the weight but is a big middleweight and seems to be headed for supermiddle in the future..

EBU cruiser champ Marco Huck will reportedly defend the title against Russian Valery Brudov in Germany January 24. The fight will also be a WBA eliminator.

Polish Bullit Knockout Promotions stage a show October 18 with three WBC Youth titles on top featuring jr middle Damian Jonak, lightheavy Tomasz Hutkowski and heavyweight Andrzej Wawrzyk. On November 29 in Katowice EBU welter champ Rafael Jackiewicz will indeed defend the title against Slovenian Jan Zaveck.

German-based welter Zapir Gereev got married and changed his name to Zapir Rasulov.

Former EBU welter champ Sugar Jackson Osei Bonsu will now fight a six-rounder in Amsterdam October 13 against Romanian spoiler Gheorghe Danut. The big show that was to have featured Jackson vs Carlos Baldomir in a WBC eliminator November 11 in Antwerp is postponed until January or February 2009 (and it probably won´t be a WBC eliminator then either). There might be another show with Jackson as headliner before the end of the year in Antwerp. Osei Bonsu vows never to underestimate a fighter again as he did against Rafael Jackiewicz.

Sergey Gulyakevich´s defence of the EBU jr lightweight title against Vitaly Tajbert is on for December 5 in Halle an der Saale. Spotlight Boxing promotes.

Universum heavies Aleksander Dimitrenko and Luan Krasniqi met yesterday at a press conference in Duesseldorf. They know each other well, have trained together and sparred but come November 15 it´s a crossroads fight for both. Dimitrenko have a lot more to lose compared with Luan but also have the time to make it back while Krasniqi is at the end of the road in case of a defeat.

Spotlight Boxing having signed up Hungarian amateur star Pal Bedak, who represented his country in two Olympic Games at light flyweight. Pal will make his prodebut December 9 in Solden, Austria, where also older brother Zsolt is featured.

Ukrainian heavy, based in Belgium but under promotional deal with Sauerland Event, Oleg Platov returns to action on Saturday in Bamberg on the undercard to Abraham-Marquez. Platov face American Jason Gavern. Also on the bill is promising middle Dominik Brisch who fight Moroccan Abdoulahed Ben Lelly. Heavies, both 3-0, Robert Helenius and Nikola Vujasinovic square off in what effectively is an internal eliminator. Robert, of Swedish/Finnish origin, starts as a firm favourite.
