BROADHURST OPPONENT CONFIRMED
Don Broadhurst is relishing the chance to fight for his first title in his home city after his opponent was named today.
Broadhurst will tackle tough Ghanaian Isaac Quaye when he challenges for the Commonwealth super-flyweight title on October 31 at the Aston Events Centre in Birmingham.
"I've had a look at his record and he is very experienced so I'm expecting a tough fight," said Broadhurst.
"He's already been 12 rounds a couple of times, so I know I might have to go into the trenches at some point if I'm going to take the Commonwealth belt home with me.
"But that should give the fans plenty to get excited about. I've already sold hundreds of tickets and there is a real buzz in Birmingham at the moment.
"Hopefully this is just the start for me. I want to win the British and European titles in Birmingham as well - and fight here for a world title.
"I had a non-title fight at the N.I.A when Amir Khan was up here in the summer, and the atmosphere then was amazing. Imagine what it's going to be like when I win the Commonwealth title."
The Don, 24, is unbeaten in eight fights and ready to step up in class - and will need to be at his very best to defeat Quaye.
Broadhurst will be joined on the card by fellow Brummies Matt Macklin and Thomas Costello, as well as a host of talented prospects.
Carina Moreno Enters The Final Days Of Her Training Camp
With less then a week before she defends her WBC and WIBA minimumweight world titles, reining champion, Carina "La Reina" Moreno (19-1, 5 KO's), will be well prepared for her opponent, Jodie Esquibel, who hails from Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The 4-time world champion Moreno, has spent her final days of training camp at the Chico Boxing Club in Chico, California, where she's been sparing with undefeated rising star, Ava Knight (4-0-2, 2KO's). Knight is considered by many critics in women's boxing as a future champion. Carina also worked out with amateur stand-out Claudia Gutierrez.
Taking nothing away from Esquibel, "La Reina" feels confident that she will win this fight, making it twelve in a row as she went on to say, "I know Esquibel is gunning for my titles. That's why I've invested in driving out to Chico, to spar with Ava and Claudia. The work I've been getting is second to none. The sacrifices I'm making are the main reasons why I feel I'm going to win this fight. When you're on top, everyone is coming at you with their "A" game. Come fight night I will be at my best. I'm excited."
Moreno vs Espuibel will take place on October 23, 2008 at the Tachi Palace Casino in Leemoore Ca. This championship showdown is promoted by Goossen Tutor Promotions in association with the Tachi Palace Casino.
