MIKE JONES AND ROCK ALLEN HEADLINE DEC. 5TH TELEFUTURA FIGHT CARD IN READING, PA
READING, PA (OCTOBER 27, 2008) – Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, in association with Peltz Boxing and King’s Promotions, will present a seven bout professional fight card on Friday December 5, 2008 in the Reading Eagle Theater at the Sovereign Center in Reading, PA. Telefutura/Univision will televise the night’s action on its popular Solo Boxeo series, beginning at 8:00 pm. The first of seven live fights begins at 7:15 pm.
The ten round main event will feature unbeaten Philadelphia welterweight prospect Mike Jones (15-0, 13 KO’s) against Luciano Perez (16-8-1, 14 KO’s), the steel-chinned brawler from Chicago. Jones, 25, recently won the vacant NABA welterweight belt with a sixth round knockout over Juliano Ramos of Brazil on August 29 at the New Alhambra in Philadelphia. Currently ranked 12th by the World Boxing Association, Jones also earned a pair of eight-round decisions this year over Germaine Sanders and Gilbert Venegas. This will be Jones' fifth fight away from Philadelphia since turning pro in 2005. His opponent, 30 year old Luciano Perez, has fought some of the best welterweights around. Last year Perez dropped a ten-round majority decision to former WBC welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir. He has also faced Richard Gutierrez, Carlos Molina, Jesus Soto Karass and Alfonso Gomez. Perez recently scored a second-round KO over Devin Lopez on September 19th in Cicero, IL and also has wins over Francisco Rincon and Carson Jones.
The night’s eight round co-feature will include Philadelphia's undefeated junior welterweight Rock Allen (13-0, 7 KO’s) against an opponent to be determined. Allen recently scored a unanimous decision over Gilbert Vera on September 12th in Texas. Allen was a member of the United States Boxing Team at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. He was also the 2002 United States Amateur Light Welterweight Champion and National Golden Gloves Light Welterweight Champion.
Also featured will be undefeated junior welterweight Jason Cintron (9-0, 2 KO’s) of Reading, who is coming off a shocking upset over Philadelphia’s Tyric Robinson at the Blue Horizon on October 17th. Jason is the brother of former IBF Welterweight Champ Kermit Cintron. Two other exciting fighters from the Reading area are also scheduled in six round bouts. Featherweight Lucian Gonzalez (8-4-1, 1 KO) and cruiserweight Julio Cesar Matthews (5-0, 4 KO’s) are both coming off action packed, crowd pleasing victories. In addition, Philadelphia junior middleweight Latif Mundy will face an opponent yet to be determined, and Paul Fernandez of Philadelphia will face Puerto Rican native Esteban Rodriguez of Lebanon, PA in four rounds of featherweight action.
The modern and spacious Sovereign Center at 700 Penn Street in downtown Reading has hosted a number of exciting and historic boxing events in recent years. Tickets are priced at $65, $50, $35 and $25 and can be purchased at the Sovereign Center box office (610-898-7200); all Ticketmaster outlets (610-233-0006 or at www.ticketmaster.com); or Peltz Boxing (215-765-0922 or online at www.peltzboxing.com).
Horseshoe Casino & Richie Boy Entertainment Presents Championship Boxing
Special Appearance by Boxing Legend Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini
$20k Donation & Additional Proceeds to Benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago and NWI
October 28 (CHICAGO, IL)- Friday, November 21st, Richie Boy Entertainment (RBE) will present “Double Down,” an evening of championship boxing at The Venue, Horseshoe Casino’s spectacular new entertainment facility, located just 20 minutes from Chicago. The first boxing event presented at Horseshoe Hammond since the new $500 million casino was built, the action-packed card includes ten bouts with three titles at stake and a special appearance by boxing legend Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini.
Richard “Richie” Parrillo Jr., President of RBE, will celebrate the launch of his boxing promotional company by making a $10,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago and a $10,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Indiana. In addition, RBE will donate a portion of the event’s ticket sales to both Boys & Girls Clubs.
“We have always been committed to giving back to our community and feel strongly about the good work the Boys & Girls Clubs do across the country,” said Parrillo. “RBE intends to grow our boxing promotional business right here in this region, so I feel a personal responsibility, and privilege, to support the local Boys & Girls Clubs. The programs provided by these clubs truly make a positive impact on the lives of our children,” he added.
“Richie’s donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs is typical of his ‘ lead by example’ character and I’m happy to be at the match to lend my name and support to his event,” said Mancini.
In the evening’s main event, Eric Mitchell (22-4-1, 11 KOs) faces Danny Perez (33-5, 17 KOs) in a 12-round battle for the USBA and NABO junior middleweight championship titles. Mitchell, one-half of Philadelphia’s “Fighting Mitchell Twins,” is on a six-fight win streak since dropping a 10-round unanimous decision to former world champion Ricardo Mayorga at Madison Square Garden.
Just last month, Eric’s opponent, Danny Perez, won a unanimous decision over highly touted Julio Cesar Garcia of Mexico on the Joel Casamayor vs. Juan Manuel Marquez pay-per-view telecast from Las Vegas. Perez, a tough-as-nails Mexican fighter out of San Diego, holds wins over Marcos Primera and Jose Luis Zertuche. In June of 1999, Perez dropped Antonio Margarito in round one of an eight round bout, but lost a split decision by scores of 76-75 | 74-77 | 75-76. Three years later, Perez came up short in the rematch, losing a unanimous decision to Margarito for the WBO welterweight championship.
In the evening’s co-main event, Eric Mitchell’s identical twin brother, Aaron (26-1-1, 21 KOs), faces Delray Raines (14-4, 9 KOs) from Arkansas for the NABO middleweight championship. Aaron Mitchell has won his last 14 consecutive fights by knock out including one retirement.
Neither Mitchell brother nor Danny Perez has ever lost a bout by knock out.
Other featured fighters include Don King promoted heavyweight prospect Carl Davis (12-2, 9 KOs) of Chicago; former Junior Olympic World Champion and undefeated light heavyweight prospect Cedric Agnew (9-0, 4 KOs) of Chicago Heights; undefeated featherweight sensation Gianapiero Contestabil of Avezzano, Italy (11-0, 6); and, making his professional debut at middleweight, Eli Augustam, a 2008 Olympian from Haiti who most recently served as a sparring partner for living legend Bernard Hopkins as he prepared for his recent spectacular drubbing of Kelly Pavlik.
More details about “ Double Down” and Richie Boy Entertainment will be released this week.
Tickets are available for $200 VIP Ringside, $150 Ringside, $80 Main Floor and $40 Mezzanine from any Ticket Master location or from The Venue’s box office (219/473-6060).
