Maccarinelli WBO Title Contest Off, Alvarez Fails Medical
Enzo Maccarinelli [28-2, 21kos] will not fight for the WBO Cruiserweight Title tomorrow night after his Puerto Rican opponent Francisco Alvarez [11-1, 9kos] was ruled out due to high blood pressure. Alvarez had previously weighed in over the 200lb limit, and was clearly out of shape for a man who normally fights down at light-heavyweight..
This adds to further disappointment for Enzo, who was desperate to regain his old WBO Title. He had a contest with American prospect Jonathon Banks postponed twice, and called off this week due to an ankle injury sustained by the American. It then appeared that a grudge match between Maccarinelli and fellow Brit Herbie Hide [46-4, 42 kos] was on for the title, only for Hide to turn down a Frank Warren offer.
Frank Warren still hopes to get ‘Big Macc’ a fight, but there will be no title on the line.
