Bowe destroys Rhode in 2!

25.09.04 - By Jeff Bastasini: Riddick Bowe came out full thottle and destroyed an over classed Marcus Rhode in 2 rounds Saturday night at Raymond Peltier Park, south of FireLake Casino in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Bowe looked to be 30 to 40 pounds over his previous optimal weight of 235, and his punches no longer had the speed that they once possessed. However, Bowe’s power was very much still there, as he was able to hurt Rhode with huge uppercuts and overhand rights from the very begining. Bowe (41-1) knocked Rhode down with 10 seconds left in the first and then three times in the 2nd round before Rhode's corner stepped in to stop the slaughter. The first knockdown came on a right hand to the head, while the second came on a combination after Bowe stunned Rhode with a thunderous uppercut. The end came on a right, left, right that put Rhode down alongside the ropes.

Bowe plans to fight again in three weeks. He said he would like to fight 15 times in 18 months to prepare himself for a title bout, if everything goes right, with Vitali Klitschko.

In an amusing episode that took place before the bout, Bowe refused to get on the scale at the weight-in on Friday, saying later that he was 253 pounds at a private weigh-in. One look at the layers of flab that had collected around Bowe's midsection, said another story.

Rhode ( 29-25-1) was never in the fight and only landed a couple of punches in the first round before being mowed down by Bowe’s relentless attack. However, the sight of two huge fighters, both weighing 270+, made the fight appear to be a tough man contest rather than a professional bout.
