Hatton stops Stewart!

01.10.04 - WBU light welterweight champion Ricky Hatton (37-0, 22 KOs) had little trouble dispatching American Mike Stewart in the 5th round to retain his WBU title on Friday in Manchester, England. Hatton dropped Stewart twice in the first round. Hatton kept the pressure on Stewart (36-3, 20 KOs), hurting him again in the 2nd and 4th with hard punches to the body and head. In the 5th round, Hatton connected with a huge left hand that put an end to the fight.

The win sets Hatton up as the leading contender for an IBF title fight with Kostya Tszyu or Sharmba Mitchell.
