J.C. CANDELO VS KASSIM OUMA on January 3

Promoter Art Pelullo/Banner Promotions has confirmed J.C. Candelo vs Kassim Ouma as the co-featured fight on the January 3, 2004, world championship boxing event televised on Showtime. Pelullo said today, "We're very pleased that J.C. Candelo will fight Kassim Ouma in the co-feature on January 3. It's a terrific match - two top jr. middleweight contenders in an IBF eliminator, scheduled for 12 rounds to determine the IBF's number-one ranking and mandatory challenger for world champion Winky Wright."

In the main event, Acelino "Popo" Freitas, 34-0, with 31 knockouts, of Salvador, Brazil, will challenge WBO lightweight world champion "King" Artur Grigorian, 36-0, with 22 knockouts, of Hamburg, Germany, scheduled for 12 rounds. Freitas currently holds the WBO and WBA jr. lightweight world titles. The site, supporting bouts and ticket information are to be announced.
