The Cotto’s Family Feud Part II

Miguel CottoBy Eddie Velez: Like every major blockbuster movie produce in Hollywood a squeal is to be expected. Unlike the Movies, the Cotto’s family drama is a never ending saga. According to several newspapers from Puerto Rico, today there was a major blow-up between Miguel Cotto and his uncle Evangelista Cotto. Apparently this morning Miguel showed up for training but decided to give his Uncle a new training plan for his schedule fight against Joshua Clottey. That didn’t go over to well with the Uncle who began to argue with Miguel. After several heated minutes, Miguel does a Puerto Rican version of Donald Trump and yells “Your Fired."

Evangelista then decides to start the sparring session ahead of schedule and punches Miguel in the nose. Miguel swings back and the two have to be separated by several of the local fighters at the gym. Miguel leaves but is followed by his uncle to an apartment. That’s when Round two begins and Evangelista throws a Cinder block at Miguel. Evangelista misses but the Cinder Block smashes the front windshield of Miguel’s car.

The police are called but no one is arrested, Evangelista was taken to the hospital and the rumor is there might be charges filed against Miguel and his Uncle. The tension between the Cotto’s has been growing for years but it finally went to a new level today. My feeling is the Joshua Clottey fight will definitely have to be re-scheduled, and who knows when we will see Miguel in the ring again. This will be a big distraction in Miguel’s career and his personal life.
