Mayorga to retire!
10.05.04 - According to a Nicaraguan newspaper, Ricardo Mayorga has stated that he will retire from boxing. "I will not continue fighting. I’m retiring. I thought about it and discussed it with my family, so this is serious. They knew it, but it is now that I make it public," Mayorga said. If Mayorga carries out his word, he will be walking away from countless future big money fights.
Big questions remain about the status of Mayorga's future outside boxing. He was accused of rape and assault in Nicaragua several weeks before his fight with Trinidad. He now has to go back to Nicaragua to face his substantial legal problems.
"Of course I'm going back, I don't run from nobody in the ring and I won't run from nobody in life," Mayorga said. "I will face the situation because I know that I am innocent."
