Juanma Vs. Laput being eyed for September!

By: Benjie Varella - Puerto Rican superstar WBO Jr. Featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez has one more fight left this year before moving up in weight to face Cuban sensation WBA Featherweight champion for a mega-fight early next year. Top Rank promoter Bob Arum strongly believes that Juanma should face a top calibre fighter before leaving his current division. Putting his title on the line on September, Arum is eyeing top Filipino prospect Rammie Laput who is ranked #4 by the WBO and is currently the WBO Intercontinental champion..

Laput’s manager Ken Smith of the Philippine-based American Boxing Academy Stable said that his kid is ready to slug it out with Juanma and is prepared to pull an upset. “It would be an honour for Laput to fight such a popular champion. This will be Rammie’s chance at fame and fortune. Every fighter dreams of this opportunity and now perhaps Laput will get his shot to shock the boxing world”, Smith told East Side Boxing.

Laput who has a record of 38 wins, 3 losses and 20KO’s should not be taken for granted. He proved himself by disposing popular Thai and former world boxing champion Ratanchai Sor Vorapin in the eleventh round last May.

Should the bout take place, it will be at New York’s Madison Garden to be televised over Top Rank PPV TV.
