News: Ricardo Castillo; Mauricio Herrera; Roman Martinez

Banner Promotions President Art Pelullo and Golden Gloves President Rodney Berman have signed featherweight contender Ricardo “Piolo” Castillo, 38-7 with 25 knockouts, of Mexicali, B.C., Mexico, to a promotional contract. Now 30 years old, Ricardo won the Mexican featherweight title in his last fight in July, 2009, and is a former North American Boxing Federation featherweight champion, as well. He is the younger brother, by five years of two-time WBC lightweight world champion Jose Luis Castillo, and is managed and trained by Pedro Moran..

Art Pelullo said, “We’re very happy to have signed Ricardo to a promotional contract. He’s a warrior in the great Mexican tradition and we have big plans for him. He will be getting opportunities for big fights in the near future.”



“EL MAESTRO” DOES IT AGAIN! RISING JUNIOR WELTERWEIGHT STAR’S RECENT WIN OVER DAVIS TO AIR ON FOX SPORTS EN ESPANOL ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 21ST

LOS ANGELES, August 20 – It was another virtuoso performance for “El Maestro” at Omega Products International, in Corona, California on August 14th, as unbeaten Mauricio Herrera stopped Jason Davis in the fifth round of their WBC / USNBC junior welterweight title fight. Tonight, fight fans can see this rising 140-pound star in action as as Fox Sports En Espanol airs Herrera vs Davis on the Friday, August 21st edition of its hit new series “Boxeo Thompson.”

Also featured on this week’s “Boxeo Thompson” is the exciting super bantamweight bout between unbeaten Russian prospect Khabir Suleymanov and Mexico’s Jonathan Arias.

ARGENTINIAN VICENTE MARTIN RODRIGUEZ FOE FOR ROMAN MARTINEZ IN “UNDEFEATED CHAMPIONS” SEPTEMBER 12 IN PUERTO RICO

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO (August 20, 2009) - WBO junior lightweight champion Roman “Rocky” Martinez has an opponent for his first defense, September 12 on the “Undefeated Champions” pay per view card, presented by PR Best Boxing Promotions, in the Coliseo de Puerto Rico Jose Miguel Agrelot.

Martinez (22-0-1, 13 KO’s), who won the 130-pound title last March in England when he knocked out British fighter Nicky Cook, will defend his WBO 130 pounds title versus Argentinean Vicente Martin Rodriguez.

“Rodriguez is a fighter that is ranked No. 9 by the WBO and he Martinez’ opponent for ‘Rocky’s’ first title defense,” said promoter Ivan Rivera, president of PR Best Boxing Promotions.

Rodriguez (25-2, 13 KOs), 24, has had 26 of his 27 fights in Argentina, the exception in Australia.

“Undefeated Champions” is being distributed in the United States by Integrated Sports for live viewing at 9 PM/ET – 6 PM/PT on cable and satellite pay-per-view via iN Demand and DirecTV for a suggested retail price of only $29.95.

In the main event, unbeaten WBO junior flyweight champion Ivan “Iron Boy” Calderon (32-0-1 6KO’s), from Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, will face Rodel Mayol (25-3-1, 19 KO’s) in a rematch of their June 13 fight that ended in a technical draw after six rounds due to a cut suffered from an accidental head-butt to Calderon’s head.
