Undefeated Andre Ward (left) and Shelby Pudwill weighed 171.2 and 170.5 pounds, respectively, for their important 10-round fight in the second half of a fistic doubleheader on a special Saturday primetime edition of ShoBox: The New Generation tomorrow, Sept. 12, on SHOWTIME (10 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the west coast).
Both world Boxing Association super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler and his opponent Gusmyr Perdomo weighed in at 167 pounds at today’s weigh-in in Denmark.
In the opening bout on SHOWTIME, Mikkel Kessler (41-1, 31 KOs), of Copenhagen, Denmark, will defend his WBA super middleweight title against No. 1-ranked Gusmyr Perdomo (16-2, 10 KOs) of Turmero, Venezuela. The scheduled 12-rounder will air on same day tape delay from MCH Messecenter Herning in Herning, Denmark.
Ward and Kessler will meet in the first round of the highly anticipated, potentially game-changing Super Six World Boxing Classic on Nov. 21..
Pudwill (22-3-1, 9 KOs) of McGlauglin, S.D., on the scale Friday.
The 2004 Olympic Games gold medalist, Ward (19-0, 12 KOs), of Oakland, Calif., weighs in.
The Ward-Pudwill 10-round match will emanate from Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, Calif.
The only boxer to twice defeat future Hall of Famer Roy Jones, Jr., popular former undisputed light heavyweight world champion Antonio Tarver, will join the SHOWTIME announce team of in Al Bernstein and Steve Farhood as a guest commentator for the split-site doubleheader.
Antonio Tarver To Join SHOWTIME Annouce Team This Saturday For Ward-Pudwill, Kessler-Perdomo
Crafty former light heavyweight world champion Antonio Tarver will join the SHOWTIME® announce team again this Saturday in a special edition of ShoBox: The New Generation at 10 p.m. ET/PT. Tarver will join Al Bernstein and Steve Farhood as a guest commentator for the split-site doubleheader. Tarver, the former undisputed 175-pound world champion, is the only man to stick two losses on the professional resume of future Hall of Famer Roy Jones, Jr.
Said Tarver, “My first time out of the gate with Nick Charles and Steve Farhood was an absolute blast. I’m looking forward to working with Steve again and Al Bernstein this weekend when I return to SHOWTIME. Al called the Olympic Games in ’96 and I have such a great deal of respect for him. He is one of the most knowledgeable and respected announcers around. I’ll have to be sharp as a knife! I’m really looking forward to this weekend.”
SHOWTIME will televise the World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Middleweight Championship between defending champ Mikkel Kessler and challenger Gusmyr Perdomo on same-day coverage from Herning, Denmark.
Immediately following Kessler vs. Perdomo, SHOWTIME will air a LIVE 10-round Super Middleweight bout between unbeaten U.S. Olympic gold medalist Andre Ward and Shelby Pudwill from Temecula, Calif. Kessler and Ward will face each other later this fall (Nov. 21) in the first stage of SHOWTIME Sports' groundbreaking tournament, the Super Six World Boxing Classic, a six-fighter tournament featuring the class of the super middleweight division.
