“My training camp was great, we did what we had to do to keep the weight down,” Diaz explained. “There was probably a little [rust] at the beginning of training, but now we feel good and we’re going to see what happens..”
Jesus Chavez hasn’t fought since April 2009 with an exciting back and forth battle with Michael Katsidis, but he’s eager to get back into the ring. “My training camp went well. We’re ready. We’re on weight and we can’t wait.”
Both view the other man as a dangerous opponent.
“Every opponent gives you problems and we’re getting ready for whatever he’s going to bring.” Chavez said. “My experience is my biggest asset.”
“He’s a tough fighter, a good boxer, and we’re going to be in there for the long haul. And hopefully everything comes out good.” Diaz stated. “My strength is going to be the key to this fight. I think I’m a little bigger than him, so, we’re going to try to do that.”
David Diaz isn’t looking ahead either.
“I don’t like to look ahead. I gotta take care of Jesus first because he’s a big obstacle in my fight.” Diaz did acknowledge how good the lightweight division is right now. “I think the lightweight division is hot and we want to get on top of that.”
Whatever the result is, the fight will most certainly be a shootout.
