Super Six: Froch laughs off Dirrells jibes
LONDON (October 9th ,2009) Ė Carl Froch has laughed off Andre Dirrellís attempts to rile him ahead of their Super Six World Boxing Classic showdown at the Trent FM Arena, Nottingham on October 17th. Froch will defend his WBC World Super Middleweight title against the undefeated American hotshot who has certainly proved a championships contender in the trash talking stakes.

Speaking as he wrapped up his training camp at the Big Bear resort in California Dirrell blasted Froch saying, ďHeís a gasbag. He may have fought southpaws and orthodox style fighters, but he has NEVER fought a switch-hitter like me. Iím going to go Mickey Mantle on him and shoot the works from the moment the bell rings. Mr. Froch can kiss my Yankee Doodle.
ďIíve spent my whole life dreaming of this night when I fight for the world title. Froch has been foaming at the mouth saying how hopeless my chances are against him. Frankly I find his rants tiresome. No wonder Joe Calzaghe didnít give him a shot..Ē
Froch however isnít losing any sleep over Dirrellís tirade. ďBy the time Iím finished with him heíll be more Mickey Mouse than Mickey Mantle,Ē said the Champion. ďHeís coming in to a whole world of trouble getting in a ring with me, in my hometown, in a fight for my title. I keep hearing about how great he is and how much potential he has, well now itís time for him to step up to the plate. Heís in with the big boys now so itís time to put up or shut up and Iíve no doubt Iíll be shutting him up. By the time Iím finished with him heíll understand exactly why Joe Calzaghe didnít want to get in a ring with me.Ē
Dirrell is due to arrive in the U.K. this weekend ahead of the bout and his promoter Gary Shaw is confident that his man has what it takes to dethrone Froch and emerge victorious in the Super Six tournament. ďAndre is considered the dark horse of this tournament and thatís just fine with us,Ē said Shaw. ďNo one gave him a chance against Victor Oganov (28-1, 28 KOs), or Anthony Hanshaw (21-1-1, 14 KOs), and he had an early night with both of them, knocking them out in the sixth and fifth rounds, respectively. I have no doubt Andre will be the new WBC super middleweight champion on October 17 and I have no doubt Andre will be in the finals of this illustrious tournament.Ē
The October 17th bout will be screened live on pay per view in the UK and Ireland on new satellite channel Primetime (Sky channel 480) as part of a knockout Super Six tournament double header from Nottingham and Berlin. The tournament officially kicks off in Germany when former marquee Middleweight Champs Arthur Abraham and Jermain Taylor clash at The O2 World Arena in Berlin before the action moves to Frochís hometown and the Trent FM Arena in Nottingham.
