The World Boxing Council today is officially appointing Vitaly Tajbert of Germany as the undisputed WBC super featherweight world champion. Tajbert won the WBC interim super featherweight championship by defeating Humberto Gutierrez of Mexico last November 11. Humberto Soto is now the WBC lightweight champion and in strict adherence to the WBC Rules and Regulations, Tajbert becomes the undisputed super featherweight champion of the world. We wish him the best of luck in his career.

My next title defense might happen in May.Ē

Interview Dietmar Poszwa

Universum is awaiting a spectacular fight in Las Vegas. What do you expect and how do you feel about the trip to Las Vegas?

Universum ĄViceď Dietmar Poszwa: ĄBeing in Las Vegas is always something special. Itís not an everyday situation that you will present the headlining fight on HBO especially with such an incredible fighter. Marcos Rene Maidana is currently one of the most interesting and attractive fighters in the boxing business. He has an amazing punching power in both of his hands. His fighting style is very aggressive and highly attractive and he has already impressed the boxing fans in Europe and he will from now on also in America. Thatís why the fight against Ortiz was one of the top fights in 2009.ď

How is the collaboration between Universum, Oscar de la Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions?

ĄItís excellent. Oscar is not only a great guy, he has a fantastic team behind him and itís a lot of fun working together with them. Both sides have agreed that in the future we will continue our work in a more intense way but I wonít tell what we are planning.ď

What can you expect of the battle Maidana vs. Cayo?

ĄIt will be a classical bout between a fighter and a puncher. Cayo is for sure a very dangerous and unbeaten contender. I believe that Cayo will be able to have the fight on an even level over the first rounds due to his technique and his speed. But Iím sure that the longer the fight will take Maidana will take over because of his power and fitness. By the halftime of the fight Maidana should have earned an advantage in order to finish it with a knockout. Maidana is known for spectacular fights, he scores knockouts. Thatís what the fans want to see from him, thatís what the expect. For a fighter on the same level like Maidana it is highly important how to win the fight and how to impress the crowd. Thatís why Iím hoping for a knockout!ď

Which are the developments Maidana has gained over the past fights?

ĄHe has developed from a fight to the next one and he has gained a lot of experience. This is not easy especially for him because in the past he mainly had finished the fights early. It was very important for him to get the chance and have fights which will go over the whole distance. Additionally he has improved on his skills and he had fought against stronger opponents and had the energy and power to defeat them. He has reached this high international level but Iím sure Marcos hasnít accomplished his full potential yet so he will continue to cause a stir within this weight class in the future.ď

Marcos is a spectacular fighter inside the ring, how is he doing outside the ring?

ĄHe is a very friendly and decent guy with a great character. An absolute family person. He a likeable in his appearance and he is 100% focussed on his sport. Marcos is a very ambitious and determined and thatís what I like about him.ď

It was highly discussed, a fight against Amir Khan. When will we see the fight Maidana vs. Khan?

ĄAt the moment we focus 100% on the fight against Cayo. Itís important for him to establish himself as a HBO headlining fighter. Everything else can be discussed after a hopefully successful Saturday night.ď

Maidana vs. Cayo and Guzman vs. Funeka are presented by Golden Boy Promotions with Maidana vs. Cayo being presented in association with Universum Box Promotions, Warriors Boxing Promotions and Sampson Boxing and Funeka vs. Guzman being presented in association with Gary Shaw Productions and Cedric Kushnerís Gotham Boxing.
