Canadian Boxing: Team Claggett Issue Challenge to Eastern Lightweights

by GM Ross - Steve Claggett, the fighting pride of Western Canada, is eager to get one of Ontario's lightweight prospects in an Alberta ring in the near future. According to Claggett's manager Eric De Guzman, his fighter is ready and willing to meet either Buzz Grant or Logan McGuinness in an eight round contest at 135lbs. Teofista Promotions has a card in the works for July 24th, to be staged in either Lethbridge or Calgary, for which a Claggett-Grant or Claggett-McGuinness bout would serve as the headliner..

All three fighters Claggett, Grant and McGuinness are red hot at the moment, representing spots two through four in the CBF rankings. Most recently, Buzz Grant thoroughly outpointed Michael Kelly of Ireland at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto, Ontario. In March, Logan McGuinness turned more than a few heads at the Montreal Casino with his unanimous decision victory over experienced Mexican journeyman Pedro Navarrete. The same evening McGuinness was outpointing Navarrete in Montreal, Steve Claggett was busy in Calgary, scoring a second round TKO over former Nova Scotia amateur champion Walter Linthorne.

Regardless of which two fighters come together, the bout will certainly have major implications for the CPBC and CBF titles. The winner will surely be considered the most legitimate opponent for number one ranked CBF contender Tony Luis and/or his CPBC counterpart Pier Olivier Cote, setting up a championship showdown for later in the year.
