UK Boxing: David Price; Ashley Sexton; Erick Ochieng

DAVID PRICE has returned from helping Albert Sosnowski prepare for his WBC heavyweight title showdown against Vitali Klitschko. The 6ft 8in Olympic bronze medallist (5-0) is the same size as Klitschko and become a Price-less asset in the Pole’s preparations. Price, 26, makes his London debut at Goresbrook Leisure Centre, Dagenham on Friday May 14 when he faces experienced Russian Daniil Peretyatko (16-27). Promoter Frank Maloney said: “I am a great believer in heavyweights learning their trade in different environments. “Being part of a world heavyweight title fighter’s training camp teaches upcoming professionals so much..

“In fact David leant more from sparring with Sosnowski and than he does in some fights and it is a great experience.

“His trainer was delighted with the trip to Poland and he caused Albert plenty of problems in their sessions and his confidence is soaring.

“When I managed Lennox Lewis plenty of prospects came into the camp for sparring and went home better fighters.

“Later this year, I hope to take David to some American gyms where he will learn even more.”

Peretyatko, 36, is one of the most experienced heavyweights in Europe and a decent test for any prospect.

A year ago he outpointed Larry Olubamiwo and he has gone the distance with several leading British fighters including Derek Chisora and John McDermott.

Maloney added: “Some people have questioned David’s opposition, but there are no doubts about Peretyatko’s credentials.”

Top of the Sky Sport televised show is a British flyweight title showdown between defending champion Shinny Bayaar (15-4-1) and Cheshunt hopeful Ashley Sexton (9-0)

FLASH ASH: SHINNY IS ON THE SLIDE

ASHLEY SEXTON believes big fight rival Shinny Bayaar has seen better days. Sexton (9-0) has to show he can shoot from the hip as well as the lip when he challenges for the Oldham based Mongolian’s British flyweight title at Dagenham’s Goresbrook Leisure Centre on Friday (14th May). Cheshunt’s Sexton, 22, said: “I think Shinny is on the slide a little bit, but even if he’s not I am still going to beat him.” “I’ve been sparring with people like Jerome Arnould, Rendall Munroe, Ian Napa and Sam Rukondo – people who are a couple of levels above Shinny so I am more than confident.”

Bayaar (15-4) who will be making his first defence of the title he won from Chris Edwards last October is unbeaten in 5 ½ years.

Despite being an underdog, Sexton is not worried and added:

“The fight has come at a great time for me and a bad time for him.

“When I took the fight I started analysing performances and Shinny hasn’t looked so great in his last two fights.

“I would stop Chris Edwards. He wouldn’t lay a glove on me yet Chris looked good in some of the rounds and outboxed Shinny

“That performance also put a question mark over Shinny’s power and in his last fight against Najah Ali the decision was a gift.”

On the same bill Olympic bronze medallist David Price (5-0) steps up in when he faces decent Russian heavyweight Daniil Peretyatko (16-27).

Erick ‘The Eagle’ Ochieng To Face Curtis Valentine In Battle Of The Undefeated

This coming Friday, Stoke Newington’s rising Light Middleweight star Erick ‘The Eagle’ Ochieng is back in action on the under card of the Sky television broadcast, Frank Maloney promoted, British Flyweight title clash between Shinny Bayaar and Ashley Sexton at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre, Dagenham, Essex.

In his last fight, back in January, Ochieng decisively stopped Plymouth’s Jon Harrison at the Brentwood Centre in Brentwood, Essex. Harrison fought hard and tried all that he could to stop the stylish Ochieng from utilising his fight plan. Ochieng was patient though, constantly working away on Harrison’s body until the opportunity arose to finish him off with a beautiful left hook in the second round.

For his upcoming fight Ochieng will be facing Nottingham’s prospect Curtis Valentine. This exciting fight has an extra frisson as both Ochieng and Valentine are currently unbeaten.

Following some sparring at Johnny Eames’ Ultrachem TKO Boxing Gym in Canning Town, London, under the watchful eyes of his trainer/manager Brian Lawrence, a relaxed and smiling Ochieng spoke of his preparations for the upcoming clash with Valentine. “I’m looking forward to Friday, I’ve been training hard and I’m in good shape.

He’s a good fighter, but I believe I am more skilled. So It’s going to be a good fight. He’s a brawler, who likes to come forward, and I’ve heard he can hit a bit. That’s good but I can hit and I can box as well. It’s going to be good fight. You know what I’m saying, I’ll be smart, box and win.

I’ve sparred some very good fighters. I have far more experience than my fight record shows. You know, I sparred Darren Barker and I’ve been to Belgium to spar ‘Sugar Jackson’ Osei Bonsu, you know, these are World class fighters and the experience of sparring with them has bought me on more. I’m confident, I’m more experienced and I’m confident I will win the fight.”

Erick ‘The Eagle’ Ochieng versus Curtis Valentine is on the under card of the BBBofC British Flyweight title clash between Shinny Bayaar and Ashley Sexton at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre, Dagenham, Essex on Friday 14th May 2010.

Co-feature on the Frank Maloney promoted event is the Heavyweight battle between Larry Olumbamiwo and Colin Kenna for the vacant BBBofC Southern Area Title.

Also featured on the stacked under card are, at Welterweight, Martin Welsh against William Warburton and Scott Woolford versus Scott Haywood. At Heavyweight David Price against Daniil Peretyatko and Tom Dallas versus Lee Swaby.

In another battle of the unbeaten Travis Dickinson takes on Menay Edwards at Light Heavyweight . Also on the card will be Featherweight super star Akaash “Ash The Bash” Bhatia whose opponent has yet to be confirmed
