Mike Lee Thrills in Chicago; Martinez-Karass a NC
By Matthew Paras: In what everyone came to see, Norte Dame Alumni Mike Lee made his professional boxing debut in an impressive outing by dominating Emmitt Woods (0-4-1) to win a unanimous decision. Making his debut at Light Heavyweight, Lee dictated the pace of the fight by establishing his jab. What was perhaps most impressive was Lee’s calmness. Besides establishing his jab, Mike Lee targeted the body often and worked Woods over. Scores were 40-36 across the board.

The main event featuring Welterweights Jesus Soto Karass and Gabriel Martinez barely got time to land any punches before a headbutt caused a cut below the eye of Martinez to cause a disappointing No Contest. Martinez, whose eye did not seem to be in that bad of condition, was deemed unable to continue by the ringside doctor in between rounds.
While the main event was a bit of a letdown, it turned out to be another overall exciting night at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago.
