Mayweather Cotto: Itís Official?
By Coach Tim Walker Ė Mayweather Cotto: Itís Official? Okay, let me apologize for the headline. It is definitely a bit of propaganda. Stated plainly, Mayweather and Cotto have NOT agreed to fight each other. The sensationalized headline was meant to grab your attention. If youíve read to this point, it worked a little. If you make it to the end of the article, then it really worked.

What is official is a scheduled meeting between the WBA light middleweight champion and the worldís pound for pound best which was confirmed by Cottoís advisor, attorney Gabriel Penagaricano. The two superstar boxers will obviously discuss boxing but the conversation may skew more towards them co-promoting boxing shows and tangentially developing fighters, rather than fighting each other..
Common sense says that the topic of them facing off will definitely come up but they do not want boxing fans to think that the meeting is intended to produce one of the most sought current matchups that can be made at this time. [Enter huge depressive sigh here] Besides Floyd Mayweather verses Manny Pacquiao, a Mayweather Cotto clash is probably the next biggest fight in the 147 pound division. It would generate considerable interest and spawn sales somewhere in the area of 1-2 million.
Both fighters are nearing a phase in their boxing careers where they must begin to think about life and careers outside of the boxing ring. Co-promoting is an excellent tool and can be lucrative if it is done correctly. Still, boxing would love to see them mount the apron in combat before entering that phase fully. Letís be optimistic that their meeting produces more than what Penagaricano ponders it might.
Donít detest me for the headline fellas. It was just too perfect, I couldnít resist.
