Tony Thompson: "I'd love another crack at Wladimir Klitschko"

Los Angeles, CA (Sept. 14, 2010) - "Lesson learned." That's what former number one world rated heavyweight contender Tony "The Tiger" Thompson said after his July 2008 11th round loss to WBC/WBO Heavyweight Champion Wladimir Klitschko -- lessons he took into the ring to stop his next three opponents - now Thompson believes he has earned another shot to challenge Klitschko for his belts..

Immediately after the Klitschko fight, Hall-of-Fame trainer Emanuel Steward said, "I told you Thompson would be one of the most difficult fights we would have."

This "difficult" challenge put up by Thompson was done despite the fact he had a 13-3 amateur record and didn't start his professional career until the ripe old age of 28. Hardly the experience you hope to bring into the ring against a decorated amateur and Olympic Gold Medalist and world champion like Klitschko.

"I'd love another crack at Wladimir," the lanky, 6-6 Silver Spring, MD southpaw with the expansive 81.5-inch reach offered. "I got my amateur and professional experience all in one fight. As you can see, I'm a quick learner."

Thompson (34-2, 22 KOs) has recently stopped Germany's Adnan Serin in Stuttgart, highly rated prospect Chazz Witherspoon and former world title challenger Owen Beck.

"All I can say is everyone counted Wladimir out after being stopped by Lamon Brewster, and all he's done since then is have nine successful title defenses," Thompson logically said.

"It would be a mistake to count me out."
