FORMER world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis shocked members at Hatton Health and Fitness in Hyde when he paid a visit on Sunday lunchtime.
The Hall of Fame fighter had been in Manchester the previous evening working as a television pundit for the WBA heavyweight title fight between David Haye and Audley Harrison.
Haye and Harrison both used the gym last week to wrap up their preparations, but Lewis’s visit was the biggest surprise.
Gym manager Phil Latchford: “I got a call from Ray Hatton saying that Lennox was popping in and he did.
“When Lennox arrived he went up to the boxing gym to see how it was fitted with Ray, Ricky Hatton and Denton Vassell.
“He came downstairs and the members were surprised to see Lennox looking at them training..
“Lennox was fantastic with everybody. He posed for pictures, signed autographs and chatted with anybody.”
Lewis, one of the greatest boxing champions of all time gave the gym the thumbs up.
Latchford added: “He was very impressed with the state-of-the-art equipment and tried some of it out.
“He was genuinely interested in the type of programmes we have for members.”
