NEW YORK (January 20, 2011 ) – Boxing fans who watched last Friday night’s TeleFutura broadcast of “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” sat in the judge’s seat and selected fighter Frankie Gómez as the boxer with the most character in the ring. Not only did Gomez win the 6-round fight against Luis Alfredo Lugo by unanimous decision, but he received 87 percent of all votes cast via text message by fans across the nation.

Launched by Tecate, cerveza con carácter, the “Cinturón Tecate” award gives viewers the chance to recognize the strength, courage and determination of up-and-coming fighters featured on “Sólo Boxeo Tecate.” The boxer who receives the most text votes is announced during the following week’s program. As part of the promotion, adult fans who participate will receive free ring tones and screen savers for their cell phones.

The next voting opportunity will be on January 21, when “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” travels to Mendoza, Argentina to bring viewers a featured bout between Argentina’s Lucas Matthysse (27-1, 25 KO’s), who is currently ranked fourth in the world by the WBO and seven by the IBF, and DeMarcus “Chop Chop” Corley (37-15-1, 22 KO’s), a former Junior Welterweight World Champion who has been in the ring with the likes of Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Miguel Cotto, Devon Alexander, Marcos “Chino” Maidana and Randall Bailey.
