Sycuan's Guzman Set for Unification Bout with Larios

09.02.05 - Undefeated World Boxing Organization junior featherweight champion Joan “Little Tyson” Guzman, who recently inked a multi-year promotional agreement with Sycuan Ringside Promotions, has signed to meet World Boxing Council super bantamweight champion Oscar Larios in a 122-pound unification bout April 9 in El Paso, Texas, it was announced today..

The fight will be part of the card featuring WBC super featherweight champion Marco Antonio Barrera. The card is being presented by the lead promoter, Golden Boy Promotions; the Guzman-Larios bout will be a co-promotion with Sycuan Ringside Promotions.

The Guzman-Larios bout is contingent upon the WBC super bantamweight champion defending successfully against Wayne McCullough Thursday in their title fight at Lemoore, Calif.

“We’re pleased at how very quickly we were able to secure a big, important bout for Joan,” said Dan Tucker, tribal chairman.

“This just shows we at Sycuan Ringside Promotions are willing to have our boxers meet anybody, any where, any time,” said Glenn Quiroga, chief executive officer of Sycuan Ringside Promotions.

The 28-year-old Guzman has a record of 22-0 with 17 knockouts.

Larios, also 28, has a record of 54-3-1 with 35 knockouts.

Both Guzman, from the Dominican Republic, and Larios, from Mexico, won their 122-pound championships during 2002.

Sycuan Ringside Promotions is considered by many to be the fastest-growing and most dynamic promotional entity in the sport. Sycuan Ringside Promotions made its promotional debut during 2004, but already has four world champions and has promoted and presented world title bouts on premium cable networks.

Sycuan Ringside Promotions has many notable boxers in its stable in addition to Guzman, including International Boxing Federation junior featherweight champion Israel Vazquez and former IBF lightweight champion Julio Diaz.
