Vitali Klitschko destroys Kirk Johnson in 2nd round knockout!

06.12.03 By Jeff Bastasini: Vitali Klitschko (33-2, 32 knockouts) put on a devastating display of punching power en route knocking out Kirk Johnson in the 2nd round of their bout at Madison Square Garden tonight. The Heavyweight divison looks to have a new star to take the place of Lennox Lewis. Klitschko knocked Johnson down twice in the 2nd round with clubbing rights and lefts before the referee stopped the fight at 2:54 of the 2nd round.

From the opening bell, Klitschko showered hammering rights and left hands to the head of the timid, and overweight Johnson, who appeared to be completely overmatched by the giant Ukrainian heavyweight. With 45 seconds to go in the 2nd round, Klitsckho trapped Johnson against the ropes and landed a storm of punches that knocked Johnson down for the 1st time. As soon as Johnson got up, Vitali landed two more sledgehammer rights that put Johnson to the canvas for the final time. Referee Arther Mercante stopped the fight at 2:54 of the 2nd round.
