Atlas talks Pacquiao

By Vitali Shaposhnikov: Recently interviewed boxing trainer and part time commentator Teddy Atlas, found no trouble in letting his words go when discussing Manny Pacquiao and Bob Arum. Atlas, who has been involved in boxing for a very respectable amount on time, is always direct and almost aggressive in his debates on any boxing topic. When he speaks, it seems as though he has all the answers memorized before they are even asked. I believe him to be a knowledgeable boxing historian, with interesting insights to offer.

“For all the credit and adoration Pacquiao got by the promotional machines, the publicity machines, the Pay Per View networks, the only thing great about his opponents is their names. Everything else was flawed.” – Teddy Atlas Interview (http://www.doghouseboxing.com/DHB/Tyler052511.htm)

“There are hundreds of fighters out there from the Golden Years of boxing who would easily beat him.” – Teddy Atlas Interview

Atlas talks about Pacquiao and how he would compare to some of the greats, as well as criticizes his previous opposition. After reading the interview and giving it a thought, who can find it easy to disagree with Atlas on Manny Pacquaio’s true choice of competition? I surely can’t.

After beating an unwilling Shane Mosley, the fans, infuriated with the terrible performance of Mosley, demanded Pacquiao step up and fight Sergio Martinez. While a superb idea, it’s slightly improbable, as the weight would become an immediate issue for both men. Atlas takes a little time to talk about this proposes fight as well, and gives his expert opinion on the situation.

While Atlas may seem aggressive in his discussion, he also comes through as a respectful and honest person to talk with. Enjoy the interview and discuss!
