ELLIS KO’S WILLARD IN 6TH

08.12.03 - Kenny Ellis is back in the title hunt. Fighting for the first time in the super middleweight division, Ellis scored a convincingly six-round TKO over tough Canadian journeyman Willard Lewis. “It felt good to get back in the ring” Ellis said. “It has been a little over 3 months.”

The jump in weight class did nothing to slow down Ellis. He was quick and precise and established his jab from the opening bell. This was Ellis’s first fight and victory since losing his NABO title and the NABF and NABO titles to Kingsley Ikeke. Ellis suffered a cut on the bridge of this nose during that fight and the bout was stopped in the sixth round by the fight doctor.

Ellis will return to middleweight for his next fight. “We are ready to step up,” said promoter Brian Halquist. “Kenny lost his #3 WBO ranking and we’ll fight anyone in the top ten.”

“We would really love a rematch with Ikeke, but if that doesn’t pan out, we would love to fight Jermaine Taylor,” Halquist said.

“Jermaine is a young good fighter; however, he has never fought anyone at my level. I’ll take him to deep water and drowned him” said a confident Ellis.
