Early date no problem for Commonwealth champ Obodai Sai
By Prince Dornu-Leiku: That his fight date has been brought forward eight days than previously announced due to TV schedules, Ghana’s Obodai Sai remains unwavering but rather focused on his first defence of the Commonwealth Super Welterweight title against Briton Jamie Cox.

Obodai (15-0, 10 KOs) was originally billed to fight Cox (15-0, 9 KOs) in Liverpool on September 17 but the fight will now take place at the Hilton Hotel in London this Friday September 9. However the man nicknamed The Miracle has told leading Ghanaian sports newspaper ALL SPORTS that he will return safely with the belt he won nearly three months ago in Accra.
“It will not affect me, I have trained and prepared very well so no problem, I’m eagerly looking forward to the fight,” Obodai told ALL SPORTS before flying out to the UK on Monday night in the company of trainer Nii Dzanie Kotey AKA Alloway.
Despite the fact that he will be fighting a professional fight outside Ghana for the first time ever, Obodai says there will be no disadvantages on Friday night. "I am so glad that the weather condition in Ghana for at least the past two months was similar to Europe and I have trained day and night in the cold so no problems at all. I know it will be tough, it will not be easy but I promise to win," said an obviously confident Obodai Sai.
Obodai has been promised a long term contract with the renowned Frank Warren Promotions should he prevail on Friday with a second defence pledged before the end of the year after which a world title crack looms big. There can therefore be no turning back for the Miracle.
“I am pleading with Ghanaians to support me with prayers and I will bring the belt back to Ghana because I have prepared very well. We are moving forward and nothing can stop us now,” Obodai Sai said.
