David Estrada Prepares For Showdown With Sugar Shane Mosley

06.03.05 - Mexican warrior David Estrada (18-1 9KO's) takes his heavy hands and cement jaw to Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, April 23rd as he takes on former three division world champion Sugar Shane Mosley, 39-4 (35KO's) in a special attraction ten round welterweight showdown on the action packed Main Events/ESPN Pay Per View professional boxing card live from the beautiful outdoor amphitheater at Caesars Palace.. Estrada is currently ranked the # 9 welterweight by Ring Magazine and # 2 by the International Boxing Federation.

Since beating Smith at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT six weeks ago, the boxing world has taken notice of the Miami based, Chicago born contender. Stated Estrada, "The next night I went to the Floyd Jr.show at the Arena here and it seemed like everyone had watched the fight the night before, I signed a ton of autographs and took lots of pictures. Prior to that, it was pretty quiet for me."

Speaking about fighting former three division world champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley, the Angelo Dundee trained Estrada went on, "I heard him say he'll be at his best back at welter and particularly for this fight. I would expect nothing less than his finest performance and I'll be prepared. I never got out of the gym after my last fight. I was in great shape for the Smith fight and I'll be at my best on April 23rd. Boxing fans should see a terrific bout between us that night."

Discussing his previous experience in Las Vegas, a bout that saw him take a ten round unanimous decision over Armando Velardez two years ago, Estrada continued, "It was a great experience, it seemed like I gained some local fans there that night. This is a big fight on a big stage, but its all business for me. I have one purpose there and that is to beat Mosley, there will be no distractions between now and the time the bell rings."

Commenting on the long odds of 9-1 against him for the fight posted at Caesars Palace, the 26 year old Estrada said, '"Doesn't bother me in the least. I've been the underdog many times, always fighting on other promoters card in other cities. Mosley didn't set those odds, I'm sure he's not thinking its a walk in the park. This will be a good scrap, sort of a throwback fight. I'm not planning on dancing in there and I know Shane isn't either."

Getting back to his training, the classy Estrada finished by thanking DiBella Entertainment, Main Events, ESPN, Caesars Palace and Mosley for the opportunity. "I've always wanted to fight the best and Mosley is as good as they come, he beat a lot of great fighters at 147 a few years back, guys like Oscar, Antonio Diaz and Wilfredo Rivera. It's a great opportunity and I plan on making the most of it. Its great to be ranked highly by Ring Magazine and the IBF, but it won't mean anything unless I'm victorious on April 23rd."
