Rivera (37-3-1, 24 KOs) will make his first title defense April 2 against No. 1 rated Thomas “Lionheart” Damgaard (34-0, 26 KOs), of Denmark, in the 12-round co-feature at the DCU Center in Worcester. In addition to being a world champion boxer, Jose is a fulltime court officer in Worcester. He’ll talk about his remarkable life, challenging boxing career, fighting Damgaard, and defending his title belt in his hometown.
The rise and fall of Grant (39-3, 30KOs) will be discussed, as well as his impending comeback. The 6-7 Grant won his first 31 pro fights, 22 by knockout, including victories against David Izon (TKO5), Obed Sullivan (TKO9), Lou Savarese (DEC10) and Andrew Golota (TKO10). Devastating back-to-back losses to heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis (KO2) and Jameel McCline (TKO1) were followed by seven consecutive wins by knockouts in his first comeback. Another loss by TKO in the seventh round by Dominick Guinn in 2003 derailed Michael’s career again. Grant’s last fight was a sixth-round TKO of Charles Hatcher nearly 13 months ago.
