Emanuel Steward interview

By Vitali Shaposhnikov: Lately, there have been some talks circulating about Antonio Tarver (29-6-0) calling out Wladimir Klitschko (56-3-0). Tarver seems to think that he is the only fighter out there who is capable of beating the Ukrainian giant. While I along with many others believe this to be a suicide for Tarver’s career and a waste of time for Wladimir, Emanuel Steward seems to think otherwise.

“I would love to see Wladimir Klitschko fight Antonio Tarver for many reasons. One is Tarver talks a lot; he would build up a big fight. And Tarver is coming off of a great victory. So I think he would be a good opponent,” said Wladimir’s trainer Emanuel Steward during my short interview with him.

After mentioning that Tarver had very limited experience at heavyweight, Steward had the following to reply with: “He is the best of a bad bunch, but he is a seasoned fighter, he is left handed, and he is a type of a guy who has a lot of confidence in himself.”

Seems like this would be a good fight for financial reasons, but there is very little to say about the competitiveness of this proposed match-up. It is understandable that finding competition for either of the Klitschko brothers is not easy nowadays, so blaming them for taking any fight that will spell a larger paycheck is something I would not blame them for.
